Get to Know Renee
Hello! I am Renee Vasquez. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, with over fifteen years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have worked with a wide variety of client populations, and in various settings, including therapeutic day school, public school, partial hospital, outpatient, step-down transitional living, and intensive residential programs. I specialize in the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and working with Family Systems. My full-time work is as a high school Guidance Counselor, and I run a part-time private practice which is exclusively via Tele Health at this time.
My counseling approach is completely client-centered. There is no cookie-cutter therapy or magic power that a therapist possesses, but rather, the therapeutic process is about providing a safe, non-judgmental space for a client to understand themselves in a new way. After all, perspective is reality. It has often been said that if we can change our thoughts, we can change our experiences and our behavior. I know it can be difficult to seek counseling, for a myriad of reasons, and I strongly believe that everyone can benefit from counseling in one way or another.
A wise coworker of mine once said, “each time we tell our story, we heal a little.” I aim to be approachable, realistic, honest, and reflective in my sessions. I am most passionate about working with family systems, relationship issues, and depression. While I use a wide range of therapeutic modalities, I have strong roots in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and I often draw from this experience. That said, I will meet you where you are at, and together, we will find what works for you. I look forward to meeting you, and working together to make this world a happier place π
